We embarked on a journey over a decade ago to build an overarching research culture in our country. Gaveshana journal is a vital cog in our up-hill struggle to achieve this target. We promote research for everyone, in many areas and in many forms. We are working to bridge ‘blue sky’ research knowledge with ‘grassroots’ activity, as part of a strategic journey for excellence.
We have partnered with the Ministry of Health to train and promote a strategic cadre of future research leaders. We have launched another programme to enhance research skills of school teachers and education officials in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
We are covering an important theme in this current issue, focusing on disseminating the findings from a number of key research projects we conducted on the mental health of displaced people in Sri Lanka. From the outset, public engagement has been a prominent feature of our research activities, as we strongly believe in generating viable public benefit through our work.
We aim to promote ‘reverse innovation’, which is to buck the trend of using predominantly western scientific knowledge, and support the increased use of knowledge generated in the global south to address global issues. Our contributions to global knowledge pool, although small, has had an impact, which we are humbly proud of.
We always recognize kindred spirits, who like us, are engaged in the difficult journey of contributing to the local research culture. In this issue, we have recognized two such people, in Prof. Wimal Balagalle and Mr. Chandana Wijekoon.
Join us in our journey, explore our nation and together, let us open new vistas of knowledge.
